Meet River! River is a 1–2-year-old, 13 lb. Chihuahua mix with long legs, a curious spirit, and an enormous heart packed into a tiny body.
River came to us from the Imperial Valley Animal Shelter with two other dogs, so we don’t know much about his past. He can be a little shy when he first enters a new environment, but once he feels safe, his sweet, easygoing personality quickly comes through.
This little guy is all about his people. River is happiest curled up in your lap, snuggled beside you, or following along to see what you’re doing. If you sit down, there’s a very good chance he’ll decide your lap is exactly where he belongs. He loves going for walks, exploring the backyard, and playing with his favorite stuffed dog toy.
River can be a little nervous in busy public settings, but he feels much more secure when he’s close to his person. He would make a wonderful companion for someone looking for a devoted little shadow and best friend.
Although River currently shares a foster home with one of the dogs he was found with, they do not appear to be bonded. He could be happy as the only dog in the home or living with another friendly canine companion. He also lives peacefully with a cat in his foster home.
River is very well-behaved and is not a chewer or a digger. He isn’t a big fan of the crate, but he does well being confined to a bedroom when left alone during the day. At night, his favorite place is right next to you in bed—preferably tucked under the covers.
He is smart, treat-motivated, and eager to learn, which should make continued training fun and rewarding.
River is looking for a loving home where he can feel safe, stay close to his people, and finally have the forever family he deserves. He is neutered and up to date on vaccinations. HIs adoption fee is $300.
