Skittles was found with her mother and siblings after the entire family had been abandoned. At only a few pounds, she was far too small and vulnerable to face an uncertain future without protection.
Her mother did what she could to care for her babies until rescuers stepped in and brought the family to safety.
For Skittles, everything changed.
Instead of uncertainty, there were regular meals. Instead of being left outside, there was a safe place to sleep. And instead of being forgotten, there were finally people looking out for her.
Skittles is now getting the opportunity to experience puppyhood the way she should. She's learning, exploring, playing, and discovering the comfort of human affection. Her personality will continue developing as she grows, and her future family will play an important role in helping her become a confident adult dog.
As a Pug / Chihuahua Mix, Skittles may grow into a playful, affectionate, loyal little companion. Pugs are often social and charming, while Chihuahuas are intelligent, alert, and deeply devoted to their families.
At only 3 pounds currently, Skittles needs gentle handling and careful supervision around young children and larger animals.

Training, Adjustment & What to Expect
Skittles is still learning everything about being a family dog. Her adopter should be prepared for normal puppy behaviors such as chewing, teething, accidents, curiosity, and plenty of playful energy.
Please remember the 3-3-3 Rule:
3 Days to begin decompressing and feeling secure
3 Weeks to start learning her family's routine
3 Months to become comfortable and truly feel at home
Early positive reinforcement training and socialization will help Skittles build confidence and develop healthy habits.
Owner Responsibilities & Veterinary Care
Adopting Skittles means making a lifelong commitment to her health, training, safety, and happiness.
Her adopter will be responsible for:
Completing all age-appropriate puppy vaccinations
Spaying when age-appropriate
Routine veterinary wellness examinations
Flea, tick, heartworm, and parasite prevention
A nutritionally complete puppy diet appropriate for her size
Dental care
Continued training and socialization
Maintaining a healthy adult weight
Providing appropriate exercise and mental enrichment
Because Skittles is currently only 3 pounds, her veterinarian can provide guidance regarding feeding, exercise, and other considerations while she is still very small.
