Compton arrived at our shelter on 8/7/2026, after he was found by some people passing through town. We held him for a legal stray hold and no one claimed him. He has been growing well and is still quite young, born approximately in early July 2026. He has been vet checked, wormed, and received his first of three distemper/parvo vaccinations. He will be ready for adoption after his second shot around September 3rd and will be ready for the last one 2 to 3 weeks later. Once he is old enough, we will coordinate his rabies vaccination and neuter surgery with his adopter and the cost of both will be covered by the shelter. His adoption fee of $150 has been sponsored.
Compton is a healthy, active, and mischievous pup. He will require a lot of training in all areas. He needs a home that is committed to this and in which he will not be left alone for long stretches. He appears to be a boxer/pit bull type mix, maybe with some type of shepherd, so it is likely that he will grow up to be a big dog. He's young enough to learn to interact well with cats and should do well with other dogs. A home without really young kids would be best as he's all about the mouthy puppy stuff right now. Those little teeth can hurt! He will definitely keep someone on his or her toes.
NOTE: Adoptions are done via private appointment once an application has been completed and approved.
We are located at 101 22nd St. SE in Austin, right next to the airport. It's exit 180B off of I-90, right off of 218 South.
We do require that potential adopters be at least 21 years old and that any resident dogs be up to date on vaccinations, heartworm testing/preventatives, and spayed or neutered.
