[BLUE]Background: Brought in by finder on 8/8/26. Finder had dog the home for 2 to 3 days. No behavior notes entered on stray form. Intake staff noted that dog was skittish and fearful on intake. Given Blue dot on intake. Summary of observations to date (8/20/26) from several interactions with handler and volunteers since intake. O: In kennel, dog greets handlers at the door with swift wagging tail, soft face, neutral posture. Easy to leash. Walks well on leash, pauses when passing people, looks up at handler with soft eyes. Continues walking with handler. In the yard, dog urinates and defecates immediately on entering the yard. Walks throughout yard, sniffing. Approaches handlers for treats, taken with a soft mouth. Sometimes moves weight back when handler attempts to touch. Other times allows around chin and neck, then steps forward for more pets. Allowed scratches all over head, neck, chest, shoulders, back, with neutral posture soft face relaxed musculature. Turns body and leans into scratches along lower back. Does not respond to sit. Does not respond to tossed toys. Walks well on leash back to kennel. Follows handler into kennel. No issues removing slip leash by hand. A: Independent. Tolerates some touch and shows enjoyment with scratches along lower back, otherwise does not seek out pets. Presents as low energy. Treat motivated. Walks well on leash. Has not shown interest in playing with toys. Blue for volunteer handling as dog can appear seek out company of people and tolerates handling, but sometimes appears uncomfortable/standoffish with touch. B P: Make available for adoption by appointment and offer to transfer partners/breed rescue. Potential adopters should be familiar with the characteristics of the Shar-Pei breed (companion dog and guardian breed, loyal and protective of familiar people but may be standoffish and defensive toward unfamiliar people and dogs).[2026-08-20 14:27:00.000]
