SKYE was saved from a high kill shelter in Texas where she was about to be adopted, but the family noticed she was limping and due to the unknown cause or extent of her injury didn't feel like they could commit if she ended up needing surgery. Since she had been at the shelter since 21 September and now had an injury she found herself on the urgent list.
We had her at our vets on 2nd November for evaluation and it was discussed and noted that hyperextension injuries are common in young dogs from jumping. Radiographs were read and it was confirmed there is no bone or joint abnormalities and suspect, as the shelter did, for it it be a soft tissue injure. Treatment plan is to continue rest and carprofen medications for pain and inflammation. Allow her to dictate activity level, increasing rest if lameness worsents.
We do not know what breed Skye is, she has the looks and frame of an Australian Kepie, with possible GSD, Doberman or even cattle dog mix, but at around 3 months and 16 pounds, it is hard to say how big she will get, but I think she will a more smaller / medium sized dog. We have to guess what breed we think she is, so we ask potential adopters to do the same and do their due diligence on potential breed characteristics and lifestyle needs.

Personality & Demeanor
As a 3 month old puppy, Skye is full of life, super affectionate, wants to explore, learn and share in all that love she has bundled up inside her. As expected she is great with other dogs and we have no reason to believe at a young age, if introduced correctly to cats and other animals that she would be ok with them.
Skye is definitely a very high energy dog who is, although at the moment she is restricted to low energy and rest, if she gets the chance she will charge around before I catch her. She is incredibly affectionate and wants to be as close as she can, although she does have some competition with the other dogs and does just as good snuggling up with them.
As to be expected from a puppy she wants to explore, everything and everywhere and soon she will be teething and so will be chewing on anything she can get her teeth into - so this is very important for potential adopters to understand and be prepared for - homes must be puppy proofed, as adorable as pups can be, they can be quite destructive to your favourite things when you have not secured them out of reach or access.
She can be demanding wanting affection and when told no, she will paw or give you a sad puppy dog attitidue where you could easily be weakened to let her get her own way, she is like that adorable teenager that you know you should say no to, but they have those manilpulative powers to try and get their own way. She is super smart and responsive and will be easy and fun to train.
Compatibility & Home Life
Other Dogs & Pets:
As a puppy being around other dogs is important and beneficial as she is still learning on how to behave as a dog, understanding communication and what is acceptable in the doggy world. She is great with the senior and younger dogs here and is learning respect and that jumping on the seniors is not acceptable. She will be ok in a home without other dogs, but it is important she does get socialization and time to play and hang out with other dogs throughout her life and most importantly her younger years
I do not know how she would be around cats or small animals, but being a young puppy is the perfect age to do proper introductions-and as always, caution must be taken and a lifelong plan to keep all animals safe from each other.
Children & Active Families:
SKYE does need an active family, although I have not had her around any small children, I have no doubt that as long as the children respect her and don't treat her like a toy or be allowed to abuse her, she would be an amazing companion for a child any age. Of course as with any dog when they are running and playing they could knock someone over and they do play with their mouths, so precautions should always be taken, but she is so loving, playful, affectionate and a great size at potentially around 30-40 pounds she would be a perfit fit for an active family.
If is important to remember that she is a puppy and will be teething and still is learning and so mouthing and exploratory biting is something she will be doing.
She would do great with another high energy dog to play and chase and burn off that energy, but as long as she is with a family that is active and can provide for her what she needs to thrive she would be ok as a single dog.
Leash, House Training & Handling
SKYE does walk on the leash although she has not been on one much and going to new places could be a little scary so being patient and giving her exposure to different places is a great thing with reassurance if she is a bit hesitent.
She loves to ride in the car and at any moment will jump in just to hang out waiting to see if she gets to go for a ride. She has a doggy car seat on the front seat and is happy either curled up asleep or chilling out watching the world go by.
She is not quite house trained, but getting her into a routine is pretty easy as she is so intelligent and so desperate to please, whilst with me she pretty much as all day access to outside, so she hasn't needed to let me know she wants to go outside, so expecting a few accidents whilst she transitions and learns must be expected. Considering she is a young pup that has been in the shelter for the most of her life, she is doing amazing.
