Hello. I arrived at the shelter with severe infection and my eyes had to be removed. If you'd like to help me and other pets that enter the shelter with serious medical issues, please consider making a donation to the shelter. The Community Giving Fund is an easy way to donate online. Thank you!Blind cats can live incredibly full, happy, and playful lives! They just navigate the world using their super-powered senses of hearing, smell, and touch. If you are opening your heart to a blind kitty, here are a few simple tips to help them settle in and rule the roost:Keep a consistent layout. Once your cat memorizes where their food, water, and litter box are, try not to move them. They use spatial memory and scent to map out your home!Announce yourself. Always speak softly before you touch or pet your cat so you donât startle them. A simple Hi buddy works wonders.?? Let them walk. Itâs tempting to carry them everywhere, but walking actually leaves a scent trail from the pads of their paws. This scent trail acts like a GPS that helps them stay oriented.Block off hazards. Treat your house like youâre baby-proofing. Use baby gates near steep stairs, keep toilet lids closed, and secure any sharp corners or open balconies. Keep those whiskers intact! A catâs whiskers are their radar system. They use them to feel the air currents and detect obstacles.Look for sensory toys. Crinkle balls, toys with bells, and catnip-infused kickers are perfect for a blind catâs incredible hearing and sense of smell. With a little patience, they will be running, jumping, and snuggling just like any other cat.
