Starting October 6, all cats and kittens are FREE to adopt! Come find your new best friend today!Looking for a cat with kitten energy but none of the kitten chaos? Meet Weather Prophet! ☀️Meet Weather Prophet, a 12-year-old white and orange gentleman who proves that age is just a number!Weather Prophet came to us alongside 13 other feline family members, and while he's the oldest of the bunch, you'd never know it from the way he acts. This playful, outgoing boy keeps up with the younger cats with ease and has plenty of energy left for games, exploring, and fun. When he's not busy showing the youngsters how it's done, Weather Prophet is happy to soak up attention from his people. He's a cuddly, affectionate cat who loves spending time with his humans and doesn't let his age slow him down one bit. He may appreciate a little help with brushing to keep his handsome coat looking its best, but he's more than happy to sit still and enjoy the extra attention. Bring out a wand toy, and you'll quickly see his playful side shine!Weather Prophet would be a wonderful match for an older couple or anyone looking for a cat with a laid-back personality and established manners, while still having the playful spirit of a much younger feline. He's shown absolutely no issues with other cats and has done well around calm dogs, making him a great candidate for a multi-pet home.Weather Prophet has spent 12 years perfecting the art of being a great companion. Now he's ready to share his wisdom, cuddles, and playful charm with a family of his very own. Could that be you? Weather Prophet's adoption fee is $25, which helps support their medical care and preparation for adoption. Please note: All of our animals are spayed/neutered and up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations. Each pet also receives a behavioral assessment to help us better understand the type of home they may thrive in. However, it’s important to remember that the results may not fully reflect an animal’s true personality, as shelter and foster environments can be stressful. We welcome adopters from out of state to apply! _When it comes to our pets, we're all-inclusive! ACSKC Health Care for Each Adopted Pet Includes:Dogs: Preventatives for parasites, vaccines (Kennel Cough, Distemper, Rabies), spay/neuter, microchip, behavioral assessment.Cats: Parasite treatment, FeLV/FIV testing, deworming for kittens, vaccines (Distemper, Rabies), spay/neuter, microchip. What You’ll Take Home:Toys, treats, and food sampleRabies tag, microchip number, and medical recordsA “Pet Pal Packet” with feeding info, training tips, and guidance for helping your new pet adjust

We are an open-admission animal shelter, and welcome every animal in need that we can legally accept. As an open-admission shelter, we take in many animals who may not be immediate candidates for adoption. Whenever possible, our foster parents work with these animals to rehabilitate them and qualify them for adoption to good homes. There is no set limit to the length of time an animal can remain in our adoption program. As long as we have space, and the pet appears to be able to maintain good physical and emotional health in our kennel environment (or foster home), the pet will remain in our program. Every animal, however long it remains in our adoption program, is guaranteed a clean, safe, comfortable space, nutritious food and fresh water, medical supervision and, when needed, care and supplies, as well as interaction with volunteers who groom, exercise, and socialize with them. We do our best to move young puppies and kittens and other special-needs animals into foster care, where they remain until they are ready for adoption. We also work with breed-specific groups to find homes for some animals, in order to maintain space within our own shelter. We do everything in our power to avoid the euthanasia of healthy animals, or of animals who can be rehabilitated or go to homes that will provide care for a lifetime. We are able to find new homes for the great majority of our pets and appreciate your continued support as we push towards a low-kill community. To reach this goal, we are working to create not a no-kill shelter, but a low-kill community where all adoptable animals are able to find forever loving homes. These are the steps we are taking to achieve that effect: Maintain a widespread effort to promote spaying and neutering of all companion animals Continually increase the number of shelter animals that are adopted to new homes through our programs. Encourage responsible pet ownership through public-awareness campaigns, humane education programs, and efforts to legally eliminate puppy mills and backyard breeders Supporting pet owners through training classes, counseling, and referrals to outside information sources The Humane Society of Kent County Maryland, Inc is a private, charitable 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. We are not affiliated with any other animal-welfare organization, locally or nationally. We rely entirely on the income from our community and on donations from the public in order to keep our doors open. We invite you to become more involved by becoming a volunteer or a foster parent. See our Programs link for information on how to do this.
