The Saga of Penelope
Every great story has a hero, and in this tale, her name is Penelope.
At just 1 year old, this beautiful Shar-Pei has already experienced more ups and downs than most dogs do in a lifetime. Penelope was adopted from a shelter when she was only 8 months old. Through no fault of her own, she was returned. Then she was adopted again... and returned once more. While many dogs might have given up, Penelope never stopped believing that her perfect family was still out there somewhere.
When Penelope arrived at Pei People, we quickly discovered that one of the biggest challenges she had faced was a painful condition called entropion, where her eyelids rolled inward and irritated her eyes. It's easy to imagine how uncomfortable she must have been. She is getting the care she needs now and for the first first time in her young life, Penelope can focus on what really matters: being a happy, playful dog.
And what a wonderful dog she is!
Penelope loves other dogs, both large and small, and is always ready for a game of chase or a romp around the yard. She has been around children and enjoys being part of the action. Her playful personality shines brighter every day now that she's feeling her best.
Like many young dogs, Penelope has a few quirks. She would prefer a home without cats, as they are simply a little too exciting for her to resist chasing. Given the choice, she'd much rather spend her time playing with canine friends or soaking up attention from her humans.
Despite everything she's been through, Penelope remains loving, hopeful, and eager to trust. She doesn't dwell on the past. Instead, she greets each new day with optimism, as if she's still convinced that her happily-ever-after is right around the corner.
Now all that's missing is the final chapter.
Penelope is looking for a forever family that will cherish her, love her, and never give up on her. A family that will see not a dog who was returned, but a resilient young girl who overcame obstacles, received the care she needed, and blossomed into the amazing companion she was always meant to be.
