Meet Cucumber!
Cucumber's journey began on a hot summer evening when a family discovered a thin, injured orange-and-white cat hiding inside their minivan. While searching for a forgotten cucumber, a young girl found the hungry stray instead. He was severely underweight, dehydrated, covered in wounds, and so desperate for food that he immediately devoured the meal offered to him. The girl helped bring him to Safe Haven, where he received emergency care. When it came time to name him, she proudly declared that the cucumber had saved his life, so Cucumber it became!
At first, his future looked uncertain. Old injuries to both front legs suggested he may have been caught in a trap, and specialists believed his chances for a full recovery were slim. But Cucumber had other plans. With wonderful veterinary care, a loving foster home, and plenty of time, he slowly began to heal. As the weeks passed, he gained weight, grew stronger, and surprised everyone by climbing onto furniture, exploring the house, and returning to the playful life every cat deserves.
Today, Cucumber is a healthy, happy boy with a little extra character in his walk. One leg healed with limited flexibility, giving him a unique gait, but it doesn't slow him down. He loves watching birds from the window, exploring new places, and spending time with his favorite people and animal friends. In foster care, he especially enjoyed following the family dog around and quickly charmed everyone he met with his nonstop purrs and affectionate head butts.
Cucumber is a social butterfly who loves dogs, cats, and people alike. His favorite things include laps, scritches, tuna, chicken, catnip, toys, bird watching, and handing out loving head boops (plus the occasional gentle love bite).
Cucumber's One Hard Pass: Traps. He's had enough of those for one lifetime.
After everything he's overcome, Cucumber is proof that determination, kindness, and a little bit of luck can change a life. We do not have any current physical or health issues with Cucumber, but there is no way to predict what the future may hold for him. Regular vet care is recommended (as with ALL cats) to make sure you can stay aware of any changes or concerns that may come up. If you're looking for a resilient, affectionate companion with an incredible story and an even bigger heart, Cucumber may be your perfect match.
