Talk about an amazing family dog! Brutus is an 11 month old male German Shepherd/Labrador/Cattle Dog mix who is going to be the perfect addition to some lovely family out there! He is a perfect medium sized boy - approximately 45-50 pounds currently, and full grown. He came to us due to circumstances beyond his family's control, and even though it broke their hearts, they knew that he needed a new place to land. With him he brings all the love, training and socialization that they visited upon him - and make no mistake, this dog is an exceptional dog, because of their hard work and desire to do right by him. Brutus is a sweet boy who still has a bit of puppy in him! He has been well trained and he listens extremely well. He can sit, down, settle, leave it, wait, and walk well on a leash. If he forgets himself and pulls a little, it is very easy to get his attention and get him back on track. He is house trained, crate trained, and full of good house manners. He has lived with another dog who was a senior, and was quite respectful of her. Have kids? No problem. Brutus lived with a 7 year old and was fantastic with her and her friends. He has never been around infants or toddlers and would probably do best with kids who are respectful of dogs and over 5. Cats are an unknown but he has not shown any sort of real interest in them when he walks past them - even when they let him know he isn't welcome to walk past them...Brutus is a typical teenager. He still gets plenty of zoomies, is working on learning his boundaries and doing a really good job of it. He just needs little reminders once in a while that jumping up isn't always the best thing - but he listens to those reminders pretty quickly. His dream is for a fenced yard as he loves to lounge outside right before and right after he does a few laps of the fenceline. He loves toys, stuffed ones, rubber ones, squeaky ones - all the ones. He absolutely ADORES his Benebones and will never say no to a filled and frozen kong treat - especially when its time to crate up. Bru is one of those dogs that just will need some structure and boundaries to help him figure out his new home rather than starting at square one. He knows what he is supposed to do and most of the time he does it. Continuing education as he winds his way into adulthood will be necessary, but this dog honestly anticipates what is expected of him and if he gets distracted, is easily brought back to the task at hand. He isn't a project in any way, shape, or form. He has the basics pretty much down and just needs a little guidance to stay on the straight and narrow. The hard stuff has been done!
