MEET WISE GUY — HE’S DONE SITTING ON THE SIDELINES
Wise Guy was an owner surrender, and when he was dropped off with us, we received a letter, both sides filled with all the things that they didn’t like about this dog. It made us feel so sad for him because we know he must’ve felt it. We were prepared for some issues, instead he’s turned out to be a fantastic dog.
He used to have a different name, but after reading that letter, this time around, we’re calling him WISE GUY. And this handsome, slightly chubby (40lbs) 23 month old gentleman is ready to start over with someone who understands that a dog isn’t something you simply have in the house — he’s supposed to be part of the family.
We think Wise Guy spent too much of his previous life being left out or left behind. And when you meet him, that may be the hardest part of his story to understand, because this boy is an absolutely wonderful companion. ❤️
He wants to be near his people. He wants to hang out with you, follow you around, watch TV with you, supervise whatever you’re doing and finally experience what it feels like to belong. And that is exactly what we want for his next chapter.
Right now, Wise Guy is carrying a few extra pounds thanks to a less-than-ideal diet in his former life. His coat also has some thinning and hair loss that we believe may have been caused by a previous flea infestation. Since coming into rescue, we’ve started him on better nutrition, vitamins and probiotics to help get his skin, coat and body back where they should be.
And speaking of glow-ups… ✨
A HUGE thank you to EarthWise Pet Grooming of Valrico for making our boy feel like a million bucks! Chestean went out of her way to make Wise Guy feel special, comfortable and completely pampered while carefully evening out his coat.
She told us that he did absolutely amazing and was one of the best dogs she has groomed as he is great on the table!!❤️
These beautiful photos were taken after his grooming, and we are so grateful to Chestean and EarthWise for the extra attention, patience and kindness they continually show our rescue dogs. Sometimes a fresh start begins with something as simple as being treated like you matter — and Wise Guy certainly felt that love. ✨
Although his previous owner stated that he had potty problems, he has been in his Foster home for more than two weeks and this boy is perfectly crate trained and potty trained, and has not had a single accident. He also knows how to use a doggie door now.
Wise Guy gets along well with other dogs and would absolutely enjoy having a canine companion, as he may get more anxious if he doesn’t have a companion. However, he can get carried away with playing, so we would not place him with dogs smaller than he is or with a dog who wants to wrestle and body-slam all day.
We believe a calm, larger compatible dog would be great for his self-confidence.
We are particularly interested in a home where someone is around quite a bit. Retired? Work from home? Homebody who wants a best friend following them from room to room? You may be exactly what Wise Guy has been waiting for. He is a Velcro dog and you can see him trying to connect and build a rapport in his foster home.
And this time around, no small children. Not because Wise Guy is a bad boy, but because we want his next home to be about him. He can also be a wee bit mouthy to get your attention, so maybe some herding dog in there?? We don’t know what breed of dog he is, we just know he’s a very good dog!!
This boy deserves to go on the car rides.
He deserves to hang out in the living room.
He deserves to go hike in that state park.
He deserves to be included in the family activities.
He deserves someone who looks down and says, “Come on, Wise Guy. You’re coming too.” ❤️
Because rescue isn’t just about finding a dog another house. It’s about giving him the life he should have had all along.
And that’s exactly what we’re looking for.
WISE GUY IS LOOKING FOR HIS FOREVER FAMILY.
