Dan's care needs are:
[YELLOW]Background: Brought in stray for vet care with wounds around neck. Finder had dog in home for one night with no issues. Noted that dog seemed friendly, was scared to get in the car. Given Yellow dot on intake. Did want not walk on leash. Dog tolerated all handling for intake but was uncomfortable with tail tucked. Skin flinched when touched.O: Lying down in kennel. Stood and walked to the door. Took treats with soft mouth. Easy to leash. Did not engage with barking neighbors. Pulled moderately down the hallway. Sniffed and then marked the fence outside. Marked in several places while walking. Pulled hard to sniff some spots in the yard. Off leash in the yard, stayed in proximity to handler. Stiffened and stood tall watching a dog in an adjacent yard. Turned attention back to handler when distracted by treats. Somewhat stoic and stiff body initially (possibly naturally stiff posture). Did not follow tossed toys. Did not respond to verbal cue to sit. Lured into a sit several times, rewarded with treat. Soft mouth taking treats. Began offering an automatic sit for treats. More relaxed musculature and wagging tail with pets around head, neck, and chest after a few minutes in the yard. Lowered tail and stood still for handling over back and belly then stepped forward with wagging tail for more pets around head. When handler crouched, dog approached and climbed on handler. Handler stood. Dog began jumping up making moderate body contact. Sat for in response to verbal cue and hand signal for sit. Took treat with soft mouth. Walked with handler on leash through the office to meet an new staff person. Dog was somewhat stoic with lowered tail and still body. Stood still while staff person pet him. Soft eyes and took treats with soft mouth. Walked with some moderate to hard pulling down the hall to his kennel. Hesitated and pulled back on leash on rekenneling. Followed handler inside with some sweet talk. Removed slip leash by hand. On a subsequent meeting, dog was very loose and waggy at the front of his kennel with relaxed open mouth and took treats with soft mouth. Dog has a mostly healed neck wound of unknown origin including two puncture wounds and broken teeth on the same side of his neck wound.B A: Independent but social. Presents as medium energy, which may change once dog is fully recovered from injuries. Treat motivated. Shows enjoyment with pets. Did not show any interest in toys. Can pull hard on leash. Possibly house trained (eliminates on entering the yard). Knows sit. Yellow for volunteer handling d/t pulling, some high arousal jumping with moderate body contact, apparent discomfort with some touch (holds body still with tail low for some touch around back and belly). Crew volunteer and whiteboard notes are consistent with staff notes.P: Make available for adoption. Adopters should continue to work on basic manners (leash skills, recall, sit) using a patient, reward-based training approach. Unknown how this dog may behave around children. Dog sometimes exhibits high arousal jumpy behavior with moderate body contact and appears somewhat uncomfortable (holds body still) with some touch which may make a home with young children less suitable.[2026-08-28 12:44:00.000]
