Meet Kikakee Camp, a 5-year-old, 9-pound Chihuahua mix who is officially ready to trade foster life for a forever home of her own.
Kikakee is a genuinely lovely little dog. She can be shy when something is unfamiliar, but she warms up quickly once she realizes she is safe. People are very much her thing, and once she trusts you, she is affectionate, sweet, and more than happy to collect as many cuddles as you are willing to provide.
She has excellent house manners and has been an easy foster companion. Kikakee asks to go outside, settles beautifully into a routine, sleeps quietly in her kennel, and walks well on leash.
She also does well with calm dogs. Cats, however, are another story.
Kikakee has reviewed the evidence and concluded that cats are suspicious.
So, no cats for this girl.
Kikakee would do best in a quieter home with someone who can give her a little patience as she adjusts and plenty of time to bond. She does not need anything complicated—just consistency, kindness, and a person who understands that a shy dog sometimes needs a minute before showing you how wonderful she really is.
In return, you get a devoted little companion who wants to be near you, loves affection, has great manners, and will happily settle into a cozy routine by your side.
Kikakee is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, and free of parasites. She is currently fostered in Northern California’s San Francisco Bay Area.

Umbrella of Hope does not have any strict rules on ages of children because all children are different, but our best approximation is that this animal would do best with children over the age of 5
Umbrella of Hope is an all-volunteer, donation-run, non-profit animal rescue based out of Pittsburg, CA that rescues animals from local shelters, places them in private foster homes, provides them with needed medical care and then finds them new homes.
Also, ask us about our seniors for seniors program, where we adopt animals 5 years or older to qualified homes with a $5 donation as an adoption fee. All animals are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, treated for parasites and given any additional treatments (dental work, bloodwork etc) as recommended by our vet.
