Meet Abu! This little monkey is discovering a whole new world!
When he first arrived at the Behavioral Rehabilitation Center, Abu relied heavily on other dogs for confidence and struggled to feel comfortable on his own. Through patience, support and his own determination, Abu learned that the world can be a safe and enjoyable place. Today, he's a resilient, affectionate dog who has blossomed into both a beloved companion and a helper dog for others.
With people he knows, Abu's personality truly shines. He loves attention, seeks out petting, happily rolls over for belly rubs and occasionally forgets his size in favor of cuddling like a lapdog. The more he gets to know someone, the more playful and confident he becomes.
Abu is also a social butterfly with other dogs. He enjoys making new canine friends and thrives in smaller, more relaxed groups. Like many social dogs, he can get a little overexcited during high-energy play and benefits from occasional reminders to take breaks and regroup. He would love a home with a well-matched dog friend, but he would also enjoy being your solo companion!
Potential adopters should know that Abu can still feel a bit timid around unfamiliar people, especially in new situations, and he takes a minute to warm up to new friends. He tolerates handling well, enjoys human interaction and continues to build confidence through positive experiences.
One of Abu's many strengths is his adaptability. He rides beautifully in the car, settles comfortably in a crate and knows how to balance playtime with relaxation. Whether he's enjoying an adventure with friends or lounging nearby for a quiet evening, Abu is happy to be part of the action.
Abu isn't looking for perfection — he's looking for a family who appreciates how far he's come and is excited to continue helping him grow.
