Hugo is the kind of French Bulldog who will steal your heart with his goofy personality, endless wiggles, and unwavering devotion to his people. This lovable, smart, and active boy is happiest wherever his humans are—even if that means following you to the bathroom! Every morning he wakes up in his crate with a toy in his mouth, ready to start the day.

Hugo loves toys of all kinds, especially tennis balls, stuffies, squeaky toys, elk antlers, and Yak chews. He also enjoys short walks, lounging in the sunshine, and curling up with his people. Around the house he’s generally a quiet companion who sleeps soundly through the night in his crate with his orthopedic bed and favorite stuffed toys. He does prefer his crate to be in the same room as his people.

He’s eager to please and responds well to gentle redirection. Because he gets so excited to greet the people he loves, he’s still working on keeping all four paws on the floor. He’s a sturdy little guy, so a home with older children would likely be the best fit.

Like many French Bulldogs, Hugo has a few simple daily routines that help him feel his best. He rests after meals to aid digestion and does best when encouraged to drink water slowly. These routines have become part of his normal day and are easy to maintain.

Hugo is potty trained on a schedule, keeps his crate clean, and will go potty on a leash. He enjoys neighborhood walks and, while he may pull toward an especially interesting smell, he’s an enjoyable walking companion.

Hugo currently lives with a female Great Dane and two cats. He enjoys having a canine companion, though introductions to other dogs should be thoughtful since he can be a little exuberant at first. He’s also very curious about cats, so confident, dog-savvy felines would be the best match.

Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. This will be at the adopter’s expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses. Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non-shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe.
