Meet Mae
Mae was rescued during a pretty nasty storm in Chicago, looks like she had puppies at some point too.
Her exact age and breed are a mystery, but our best guess is 1–2 years old and possibly a Mastiff/Shar-Pei mix. It also appears this sweet girl had puppies at some point in her young life, although none were found with her when she was rescued.
She's got the head that looks like it should belong to a 100-pound dog, a nose that always looks like it was stung by bees (don't worry—it wasn't!), and the personality of an oversized toddler.
Mae loves her people and hands out kisses freely. She gets very mouthy when she's excited, but it's all playful puppy behavior—not aggression. She has done well with other dogs but says no thanks to cats and birds.
She absolutely adores kids... maybe a little too much. She may accidentally knock them over to bring them down to kissing level, so we'd recommend older children—unless your younger ones have previous chew toy experience.
Mae rides beautifully in the car, is learning leash manners, and kennels well. Just don't leave food on the counter unless you were planning on sharing.
The shelter volunteer described her perfectly: "Klutzy with a developing brain." She trips over her own feet, and the first time she was invited onto the couch, she got so excited for belly rubs that she rolled right off... then barked at the couch like it was its fault.
