Meet Opie — a gentle, 1‑year‑old snowshoe who’s slowly but surely finding his confidence again. Opie and his brother Jax came to us after their loving owner could no longer care for them. While the boys were bonded in their previous home, they’re handling the transition to shelter life very differently. Both arrived shy and unsure, accepting soft pets but clearly overwhelmed by the sudden change. Shelter stress affects every cat in its own way, and Opie has been working hard to adjust.Opie has made wonderful progress. He’s still cautious at first, preferring that new people give him a few quiet minutes to settle and get comfortable. But once he realizes you’re safe and not pushing into his space, his true personality starts to shine. He’ll begin to lean in for gentle interaction, take treats from your hand, and even break out his playful side — especially if you bring out a wand toy. Those moments of curiosity and joy show exactly who he is underneath the nerves.Opie isn’t a cat who will immediately run up to greet adopters, but he is a cat who will thrive in a patient, understanding home. He’s already showing how resilient and willing he is to trust again. With time, consistency, and kindness, Opie will continue to grow into the affectionate, playful companion he was in his previous home.If you’re someone who believes the quieter, more sensitive cats deserve just as much love and opportunity, Opie is ready for you. He’s looking for a home where he can keep building confidence, feel safe, and blossom into the wonderful cat we know he is.Opie's adoption fee is $50, which helps support their medical care and preparation for adoption. Please note: All of our animals are spayed/neutered and up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations. Each pet also receives a behavioral assessment to help us better understand the type of home they may thrive in. However, it’s important to remember that the results may not fully reflect an animal’s true personality, as shelter and foster environments can be stressful. If you are interested in meeting any of our animals, we encourage you to first visit our website and submit an adoption application: https://www.acskc.org/adopt-1Once your adoption application has been approved, we will call you to set up an appointment to meet with the pet!
