Karti is an approximately three-year-old male who weighs roughly 50 pounds. He looks very much like a flat-coated retriever; however, he came to us as a street dog without any known backstory.
He is a jolly, lusty, rough-and-tumble fellow, with a huge appetite for life: very affectionate, loves to cuddle, but also likes to throw his weight around, literally. He is neutered, microchipped, and house-trained. He had a badly injured left hind foot when he was found, perhaps from a car accident; he had to have two of the toes amputated, so he now wears a prosthetic boot to prevent him from walking on his knuckles.
He is generally very good with both people and dogs, especially when off-leash. He can, however, be suspicious of men carrying large objects, or wearing hats or hoodies, or dogs who strike him as dangerous, which he registers with quite fierce barking. This, too, can be ameliorated with training.
Karti is not good with cats.
Like many young dogs with big hearts and even bigger energy, Karti sometimes gets a little too excited. A certified positive reinforcement trainer can help get his “simmer down” or “off” button reliably working for him in a few sessions.
His ideal home would be in a house with a fenced in area, with a family with some experience with rescue dogs, lots of love to share, and two arms for snuggling and cuddling on the bed and couch (his favourite pastime).
His foster home is in midtown Toronto.
