BIO: Beautiful Miss Skylar is a mere slip of a girl at only 7.76 pounds! This little girl issmall but has a whole lot of love to share. Skylar has a sad history and was notwell socialized before coming into rescue. Although she has made wonderfulprogress in overcoming her shyness, she may never be completely comfortablearound strangers. As she has gotten more comfortable in her foster home, hersweet personality has emerged. She is an absolute sweetheart. She will be a greatlittle snuggler who would love nothing more than to chill with you sharing a goodbook or catching a movie.Skylar loves her walks and is enjoying playing and learning from the male andfemale dachshunds in her foster home and peacefully coexists with the kitties inthe house. Little Skylar truly is a sweet girl and does great with other dogs her size.However, no big dogs in the adoptive home, please; they would frighten her.Skylar will need a small, young dog in the home to continue learning doggie skills.Skylar is still a bit shy, and she will take a little time to get comfortable with you.She will need your time and patience. When she does become comfortable, shewill be your best little buddy and constant companion.Our must-haves for precious Skylar include:
A fenced yard
Another adult, small, well-socialized dog for her to learn from
Someone who can be home more often than not, and most importantly, be
patient and show her that there is nothing to be afraid of, and help her to be a
friendly pet
Sorry, no apartments, high-rises, or condos because dachshunds do bark
If you feel she is worth it and you are willing to take her on, please complete our online adoptionapplication today.
============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund’s back or get bitten.
If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed on the bio form. They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.
We cannot adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have any issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures.
To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page. Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers who will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or Midwest. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. Please look for dogs on your coast.
