Erika is a beautiful 4-year-old girl who proves every day that resilience and love can overcome even the toughest beginnings. With her intelligence, determination, and affectionate personality, she's truly the complete package.
Before arriving at DRM, Erika's life was anything but easy. She was surrendered to a shelter under heartbreaking circumstances and found herself on the euthanasia list. As a stray, she had been hit by a car, suffering a broken tibia, injuries to her foot, and multiple broken teeth. She also tested positive for heartworm. Despite everything she endured, Erika never lost her joyful spirit or her will to keep going.
Thanks to dedicated veterinary care and lots of love, Erika has completed her heartworm treatment and we're thrilled to share that she is now heartworm free! She continues to amaze everyone she meets with her sweet personality and positive attitude, earning the title of the veterinary clinic's "favorite patient."
Erika is full of life and always ready for her next adventure. She loves leisurely walks, scent work, puzzle toys, treat balls, frozen Kongs, and any activity that challenges her mind. Nothing would make her happier than having a securely fenced yard where she can safely run and play.
She is incredibly affectionate and thrives on being close to her people. Erika gives wonderful kisses, adores snuggling, and has a signature move her foster family calls the "trust fall"—she'll sit beside you on the couch, turn her back, and gently fall into your lap for cuddles. She loves butt scratches, leans into her favorite people with the classic Doberman lean, and is known to spoon up next to you before drifting off into a deep, snoring sleep. Meal time is another favorite—her internal clock is remarkably accurate, and she'll happily dance with excitement when it's time to eat.
Because of the injuries she sustained before rescue, Erika has early arthritis in her left knee and walks with a slight limp. She will need lifelong joint support, including supplements, Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids, and will likely require arthritis medication earlier than most dogs. Her foster family has worked hard to keep her active with appropriate low-impact exercise that helps her stay strong and comfortable.
Erika is crate trained, but she's also incredibly clever and has mastered escaping from crates and exercise pens. She will need a home with a secure 6-foot physical fence, as she's quite the Houdini when given the opportunity.
Like many working-breed Dobermans, Erika is happiest when both her mind and body are engaged. She needs a family committed to providing daily exercise, enrichment, and continued training. Without enough mental and physical stimulation, she can become destructive as she looks for ways to entertain herself.
Erika enjoys playing with her older foster brother but can be sassy with female dogs and has shown leash reactivity, occasionally redirecting toward nearby dogs. Because of this, she is looking for an experienced, breed-savvy home where she can be the only dog. She is not suitable for homes with cats or other small animals and walks best using a slip or martingale collar for added safety.
Erika has overcome more in four years than many dogs do in a lifetime, yet she greets each day with optimism, affection, and an eagerness to love. She isn't looking for a perfect family—just one that understands her needs, appreciates her incredible spirit, and is ready to give this extraordinary girl the forever home she's fought so hard to find.

Qualified adopters are within the approved adoption area, and Adopter will be requested to visit this foster dog at the foster family home. Our foster families are generally located within a 250 mile radius of Minneapolis, MN. All DRM dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, health checked, microchipped, 4DX tested, and on monthly flea/tick and heartworm prevention.
